SKIPPING BREAKFAST

from British Journal of Nutrition

The importance of eating a healthy breakfast is repeated so often that it may be ignored. But British researchers have given new reasons to make sure children do not skip breakfast. Their report in the British Journal of Nutrition found children who ate breakfast every day had overall superior nutritional profiles compared to those who didn’t, including better levels of folates, calcium, iron and iodine. The study also showed that only a small percentage of children under the age of ten missed breakfast—ages when parental control was greater, but more than one-quarter of teens, especially girls, were more likely to miss breakfast. Authors say the study results provide evidence that breakfast is key for the health of children of all ages.
