HEART HEALTHY PLUS

from Journal of CardioOncology

A heart-healthy lifestyle may do more than lower your risk of heart disease. A new study from Massachusetts General Hospital, published in the journal CardioOncology, finds evidence a heart-healthy lifestyle may also lower the risk of cancer. The researchers found the opposite is also true—that a less heart-healthy lifestyle is associated with a higher risk of cancer. The study shows increased levels of naturietic peptides, markers of stress on the heart, also predicted higher risk of cancer. As a reminder, the American Heart Association says a heart-healthy lifestyle includes managed blood pressure, controlled cholesterol, reduced blood sugar, being physically active, eating healthy and being a non-smoker.
