FAT & HAPPY

from JAMA

More of us are becoming overweight and more of us are okay with that. A study appearing in JAMA involving more than twenty-five thousand adults shows the percentages of overweight or obese people trying to lose weight has declined at the same time the obesity rate has increased. The study says one reason may be that the longer we live with obesity the less willing we may be to try to lose weight. Another study, this one in the British Medical Journal, found perceived weight discrimination may also play a role. In essence, people who feel they have been discriminated against because of their weight are much less likely to be physically active. It may be that people who have experienced weight discrimination lack the confidence to exercise in public.
