BABY SAFETY

from journal Pediatrics

Several decades ago, a major effort reduced the number of injuries from baby walkers by improving safety standards. Now a new awareness about baby products may be needed, according to a study in the journal Pediatrics. Researchers at Nationwide Children’s Hospital report a steady increase in injuries related to other nursery products, such as baby carriers, cribs and mattresses and strollers. In the last eight years, the number of nursery product related injuries has risen nearly twenty-five percent. The most common injuries involved baby carriers, with many injuries to the head and face of the baby. Parents and caregivers are urged to research products before buying, check for product recalls, register the product and read the manual.
