PERCHANCE TO SLEEP

from journal Science

I’d like to call your attention to two studies on sleep. One, from the Society for Neuroscience, offers an explanation for a connection between pain and sleep. Scientist found after just one night of inadequate sleep, activity increases in pain-sensing regions of the brain while activity lessens in areas known to moderate pain. The other study suggests sleep deprivation may accelerate brain damage caused by Alzheimer’s disease. Until now, researchers have not fully understood the role of sleep. Doctors at Washington University School of Medicine studied both humans and laboratory animals to show sleep deprivation increases levels of the key Alzheimer’s protein. Their results, published in Science, suggest good sleep habits may help preserve brain health.
