from American Cancer Society
Updated nutrition guidelines for cancer
prevention have recently been published by
the American Cancer Society. There are four
major recommendations—to achieve and
maintain a healthy weight throughout life,
adopt a physically active lifestyle, consume a
healthy diet with an emphasis on plant foods
and if you drink alcohol, limit consumption to
no more than one drink per day for women or
two per day for men. In addition, the updated
guidelines stress the importance of creating
social and physical environments that support
healthy behaviors. The American Cancer
Society says such a supportive environment is
indispensable if all Americans are to have
genuine opportunities to choose and maintain
healthy behaviors. It says the tobacco control
experience showed that policy and
environmental changes at national, state and
local levels are critical to achieving and
supporting changes in individual behavior.
