HOLIDAY TRAVEL HEALTH

Many of us will be traveling over the holidays, but for those with chronic health conditions, being away from home can pose special challenges. The American Heart Association has tips to travel safer. Among them, let your healthcare provider know of your travel plans to help manage your medications and equipment, such as oxygen. Walking through busy airports can take a toll, so ask for a wheel chair or courtesy cart to get to your terminal. Long plane rides increase risk for blood clots, creating greater need for walking in the cabin, when its safe to do so. Of course, the usual tips apply—stay well hydrated, don’t overindulge on food or drink and know your limits—rest when needed
