There is evidence that increased exposure
to artificial light can affect our sleep habits
and the amount of blue light, such as from
phones, computers and household
fixtures, may harm our vision. But a new
study from Oregon State University in the
journal Aging and Mechanisms of Disease
suggests the blue-tinged light may also be
harmful to our brain. The laboratory
study found blue LED light, such as that
found in devices like phones, accelerated
aging—a finding that was surprising to
researchers. The study has not yet been
applied to humans, but it recommends
using devices to filter out blue light or set
phones, laptops and other devices to block
blue light emissions.
