ASPIRIN QUESTIONS

from JAMA Oncology

Long-term benefits of aspirin use were called into question recently. Evidence suggests a low-dose aspirin every day reduces chances of a heart attack for people who already have had one, but for most other people the benefits versus risks may not be as clear. With that background, two new studies side with regular aspirin use. One, in JAMA Oncology, confirms research showing regular use of aspirin can reduce the risk of developing primary liver cancer. The other study, in the same journal, found women who reported regular use of low-dose aspirin had a twenty-three percent lower risk of developing ovarian cancer. However, the same study found long-term heavy use of non-aspirin NSAIDs may be linked to an increased risk of ovarian cancer.
