ISOLATED AND SEDENTARY KIDS

from journal Circulation

As parents and caregivers focus on keeping their children protected from Covid 19, something else is happening. Nearly two-thirds of American children lack healthy cardio fitness. Even before the pandemic, children were more sedentary than in the past. The study, appearing in the American Heart Association journal, Circulation, noted pre-teens, especially, are less physically active, resulting in lower levels of cardiorespiratory fitness. Authors of the study say that fitness is crucial for good heart and overall health in children and as children become adults. They recommend any physical activity a child or teen enjoys, but simply sustain that activity for a longer period. The authors also recommend tests of children for cardio fitness.
