FISH OIL

from Journal of Physiology

Fish oil pills are a popular dietary supplement because of many perceived benefits. New evidence of one particular benefit comes from a Brazilian study in the Journal of Physiology. Researchers at the University of Sao Paulo found that giving laboratory animals fish oil supplements prevents or reverses the harmful effects of a high fat diet, suggesting fish oil could be effective in preventing obesity and type- 2 diabetes in humans. It is known a high fat diet can lead to insulin resistance, weight gain and increased cholesterol, and they say this is the first study to show consumption of fish oil supplements may be used to help in controlling insulin resistance and obesity.
