ENOUGH FRUITS AND VEGGIES?

from British Medical Journal

Many of us do not get enough fruits and vegetables in our daily diet, but how much is enough? A recent study suggested seven or more daily portions were linked to lowest risk of death. While a review of sixteen studies by researchers in China and the United States in a British Medical Journal found the benefit peaked at five servings. The average risk of death from all causes was reduced by five percent for each additional daily serving of fruits and vegetables, while risk of cardiovascular death was reduced by four percent for each additional serving. But higher consumption of fruits and vegetables was not significantly associated with reducing the risk of death from cancer. Instead, the researchers suggest emphasizing the risks of obesity, physical inactivity, smoking and high consumption of alcohol.
