ALCOHOL UPDATE

from journal Lancet

Dangers of alcohol use versus its possible benefits have become clearer in a new study published in the journal Lancet. The study analyzed data from more than two hundred countries and territories over two decades. It shows more than one billion people worldwide consumed harmful amounts of alcohol in just one year. People under forty face higher health risks from alcohol than older adults. Not only greater risks, but no health benefits. The data analysis shows some people over forty may get some health benefits from small amounts of alcohol—assuming no underlying health conditions. Authors say it may not be realistic to think young adults will abstain from drinking, but they should know there are documented health risks.
