SLEEP & DIABETES

from Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism

Here is another story about risks of too little or too much sleep. A study in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism found men who sleep either fewer or more hours than the average of seven hours a night may increase their risk of developing diabetes. Men in the study with either less or more than average sleep had higher blood sugar levels and were more likely to have impaired ability to process sugar. This is the first study to show opposite effects of lost sleep in men and women, since women in the study did not appear to increase their risk of diabetes with too much or too little sleep. However, the researchers say even if you are healthy, sleeping too much or too little can have detrimental effects on your health.
