from New England Journal of Medicine
The obesity epidemic in this country
gets a lot of attention, but a new study
in New England Journal of Medicine says
it’s a worldwide problem—that more
than two billion people are overweight
or obese. That is thirty percent of the
world’s population affected by weight
problems. Author of the study, Dr.
Christopher Murray says people who
shrug off weight gain do so at their own
risk, which is risk of cardiovascular
disease, diabetes, cancer and other lifethreatening
conditions. While the
statistics on obesity are shared among
one hundred ninety-five countries in this
report, the highest level of obesity in
children and young adults is right here.
Nearly thirteen percent. We also had the
highest number of obese adults.
Seventy-nine million.
