from the European Heart Journal
We recently reported on a study
suggesting that obese people could
improve fitness through exercise.
However, new research shows obese
people increase their risk of heart
attacks, strokes and high blood pressure
as their body mass index increases—
especially from abdominal fat. The
study, appearing in the European Heart
Journal, used information from nearly
three hundred thousand people.
Cardiovascular disease risk increased by
thirteen percent for every ten pounds of
body mass index above twenty-two
kilograms. Researchers say maintaining
a healthy BMI of around twenty-two can
minimize the risk of developing or dying
from heart disease. But, they say, for
those who are overweight or obese,
losing a few pounds or more will only
improve your heart health.
