Perhaps you’ve heard people say they
are younger than their parents were at
the same chronological age. It may be
the result of delayed aging—a term used
by researchers at Yale University and
University of Southern California.
Delayed aging means slowing the aging
process rather than simply keeping
people alive. Delayed aging, whether by
environmental or medical intervention,
has the benefit of pushing back agerelated
disease and disability. The study
found all age groups had some decrease
in biological age, but older adults
enjoyed the greatest declines—partly
explained by changes in smoking, obesity
and medication use. It shows modifying
health behaviors does indeed have
significant impact on the health of the
population.
