BRAIN HEALTH

from University of Toronto and Baycrest Institute

There is increasing scientific evidence that healthy eating is associated with retention of brain health, but there is a lot of misinformation. That statement comes from Dr. Carol Greenwood, senior scientist at Canada’s Baycrest Institute and professor at the University of Toronto. She is co-author of the first Canada Brain Health Food Guide and those of us south of the border may be able to benefit, too. The tips suggest focusing on overall patterns of healthy eating and not one specific superfood for brain health. The guide recommends eating fish, beans and nuts several times a week, including adding beans or legumes to soups, stews and stir-fried foods. The guide ties day-to-day diet advice with the best available research on promoting brain health in older adults.
