Traditional reminders about eating a good
breakfast may have missed something for
people with type 2 diabetes. A study in the
European journal Diabetolgia suggests
pairing a high energy breakfast with a low
energy dinner may bring better control of
blood sugar than a low energy breakfast and
high energy dinner. Two different diets had
about the same energy and calories for
lunch, but one had more energy at breakfast
and less for dinner. The other diet did the
opposite. Researchers conclude high energy
consumption at breakfast was linked to
significantly lower after-meal blood sugar
levels over the entire day than having the
high energy meal at dinnertime. Further,
they say this dietary adjustment may help
achieve optimal metabolic control with the
potential to prevent cardiovascular and other
complications of type 2 diabetes.
