Our goal in these health news briefs is to
bring you news you can use to improve
your own health. Sometimes that includes
promising research that may not yet be
readily available. Such is a test called
CancerSEEK, a single blood test for eight
types of cancers. Developed by scientists
at Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center, it
is a noninvasive test that evaluates levels
of cancer proteins in the blood and
presence of cancer gene mutations from
DNA circulating in the blood. So far, for
five of the cancers for which there are
currently no early screening tests, such as
liver and pancreatic, sensitivity ranged as
high as ninety-eight percent. The study
about CancerSEEK, now in the testing
stage, is published in the online journal
Science.
