FOREVER RISKS

from journals Environment Health Perspectives and Environment Research

PFAS—the so-called forever chemicals widely used in everything from food packaging to cosmetics are difficult to avoid. But two new studies tell why we should. Researchers at Keck School of Medicine at USC linked PFAS exposure to decreased bone health in teens and young adults. The other study, at Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, suggests PFAS exposure in pregnant women has a strong link with increased rates of obesity and body fat by the time their offspring reach their late teens. The Harvard study appears in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives. The USC study is in the journal Environment Research. Both studies call for stricter regulation on use of PFAS, along with further research on best ways to mitigate these persistent chemicals.
