MICRO POLLUTION

from Society for Risk Analysis

Tiny, microscopic plastic particles are getting more attention from scientists because of the effect on our environment, including human health. Although micro or nano plastic particles have been detected in drinking water before, a study presented to the Society for Risk Analysis is the world’s first regulatory investigation on such pollution. The study is part of an effort to understand health risks associated with this type of micro pollution and to establish standards that other communities can adopt for tap water quality. It calls drinking water a significant source of microplastics in the human diet. It says this type of broad surveillance will be needed to curb the growing level of plastics pollution.
