BETTER DIABETIC DIET?

from journal Diabetes & Metabolism

People with diabetes along with those who are considered prediabetic are counseled to adopt a healthy lifestyle. That includes avoiding processed foods along with sugary snacks. But a new study also suggests the benefits of a healthy plant-based diet. Research coordinated at the Medical University of Vienna shows anti-diabetic effects of a plant-based diet go far beyond body fat, weight and control of blood sugars. It shows a healthy plant-based diet can improve liver and kidney function—a previously underestimated benefit. More than one hundred thousand people participated in the twelve-year study. Researchers conclude the combined benefits of a healthy plant-based diet can reduce the risk of diabetes by twenty-four percent. Details are published in the journal Diabetes & Metabolism.
