It may seem counter-intuitive, but drinking
water may help us lose weight. University
of Michigan researchers analyzed data
from nearly ten thousand adults and found
one-third were not adequately hydrated,
meaning they were not drinking enough
water. The study, appearing in Annals of
Family Medicine, showed those who were
not adequately hydrated averaged about
three pounds heavier than hydrated
people. The researchers also found the
odds of being obese were nearly two times
higher in those not adequately hydrated.
It raises the possibility that drinking more
water could be an important way to
address the obesity epidemic, but more
study needs to be done. While many of us
do not drink enough water each day, keep
in mind drinking too much water can be
harmful.
