Time taken away from the classroom for
physical activity is time well-spent and
does not come at the cost of getting good
grades. That is one of the messages from
a group of international experts in fitness
and health, intellectual performance,
motivation and wellbeing. The
statements, published in the British
Journal of Sports Medicine, stress that
physical activity and cardio fitness are
good for brain development and function
in children. Physical activity, including a
single session of moderate physical
activity, before, during and after school
boost academic performance. The
statements also say that regular physical
activity can help develop important life
skills, boost self-esteem, motivation and
can promote social inclusion.
