from American College of Cardiology
Previous studies have suggested there is a health benefit to marriage. Now a survey of more than three million Americans, believed to be the largest analysis ever, again weighs in favor of being married. The study presented to the American College of Cardiology suggests being married reduces risk of any cardiovascular disease compared to being single, including being widowed or divorced. It may be as simple as married people looking after each other, including diet, exercising and taking medication, but senior investigator Dr. Jeffrey Berger says more research is needed to understand precise reasons. Not inconsequential were the observations that smoking was the highest among divorced people, while hypertension, diabetes and being sedentary showed up more in widowed people.
