An effective weight loss agent that
requires no prescription, has no
common side effects and costs
almost nothing? A new randomized
controlled study from Virginia Tech,
reported to the American Chemical
Society, confirms that just two eightounce
glasses of ordinary water
before meals led to weight loss. A
group of volunteers were on a lowcalorie
diet during the twelve-week
study, but the dieters who drank two
cups of water before their meals lost
nearly five pounds more than dieters
who did not. Senior author Brenda
Davy says water may be so effective
simply because it fills up the stomach
with zero calories. She says people
should drink more water and less
sugary high-calorie drinks as a
simple way to facilitate weight
management. How much more is
not clear, but she cautions it is
possible to drink too much water.
