VIDEO GAME BENEFIT

from the journal PLoS ONE

There is widespread concern about the amount of time young people spend playing video games. How much time do you spend on video games? Maybe we should consider it. The journal of the Public Library of Science, PLoS ONE reports that playing video games for an hour each day can improve performance on cognitive tasks that use similar mental processes as those in the game. Those in the study were non-gamers who played five different games on their smartphones for an hour a day, five days a week for one month. Researchers found that video games do not appear to cause a general improvement in mental abilities, but repeated use of certain cognitive processes in video games appears to improve performance on other similar tasks as well—equating to muscles that can be trained with repetitive actions.
