from the journal Lancet
A few years ago, a scientific study
suggested that being slightly overweight
actually adds to a person’s lifespan.
However, a new global study contradicts
that. University of Southern California
researchers detailed, in the journal
Lancet, their review of more than two
hundred studies on four continents. The
main finding is that being overweight
definitely does not help people live
longer. Overweight and obesity, the
researchers found, are strongly
connected to deaths from coronary
heart disease, stroke and respiratory
disease and moderately linked to cancer
deaths. Using BMI or body mass index,
the researchers suggest one in five
premature deaths in this country could
be avoided with healthy weight.
