BOOSTER BOOST

from journal SCIENCE

The Covid-19 virus continues to evolve into variants and subvariants, diminishing effectiveness of the original vaccine. However, a new laboratory study at the University of Washington School of Medicine suggests current vaccine boosters still provide sufficient immune protection against severe aspects of the Omicron variants. The study appears in an early release from the journal Science. This study supports other research suggesting that a third booster expands existing production of antibodies to better deal with the subvariants. Because of the continuing changes in the coronavirus, researchers say it is important to repeatedly evaluate the effectiveness of current vaccines with a goal of stronger, longer lasting protection.
