FISH FOR HEALTH

from Journal of Internal Medicine

There is more evidence that eating fish regularly is beneficial to our health. A new study followed more than four hundred thousand men and women for sixteen years. It shows highest fish consumption along with long-chain omega-3 fatty acids were associated with lower deaths from cardiovascular disease, cancer, respiratory disease and liver disease in men. Women in the study also had fewer deaths from Alzheimer’s disease. The study, in the Journal of Internal Medicine, did have one caveat: how the fish was prepared. Regular consumption of fried fish did not have the same healthy benefits for men. For women, long-term consumption of fried fish actually increased risk of death.
