WOMEN'S HEALTH

from Journal of the American College of Cardiology

Nearly one-half of women don’t know heart disease is their number one killer. That headline comes from the Women’s Heart Alliance in a study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. A survey of more than one thousand women in this country showed a majority had a routine physical or wellness exam in the last year. Seventy-four percent of these women had one or more heart disease risks, but only sixteen percent said they were told by their healthcare provider they were at risk. Head of the Women’s Heart Alliance, British Robinson, notes eighty percent of heart disease and stroke is preventable. Thus, he said, it is critical that women ask their healthcare provider to check their hearts.
