EATING HEALTHY

from the journal Cancer Prevention Research

Notes about things we eat: A study in the journal Annals of Neurology suggests blueberries and strawberries appear to reduce cognitive decline in older adults—a delay of as much as two and one-half years in older people who consume greater amounts of the flavonoid-rich berries. Other health factors cannot be ruled out. For instance, people who ate more berries might also exercise more. The other study, from Rutgers University, suggests two forms of vitamin E, found in soybean, canola and corn oils as well as nuts prevent colon, lung, breast and prostate cancers in animal models while the form of vitamin E most commonly used in vitamin supplements has no such benefit. The findings were reported in the journal Cancer Prevention Research.
