HOW DO YOU PREVENT A COLD?

from University of Michigan

How do you prevent colds? A nationwide poll shows almost all parents encourage strong personal hygiene, such as getting children to wash their hands frequently, teaching them not to put hands near their mouth or nose and discouraging them from sharing drinks with others--practices supported by science for avoiding colds. However, University of Michigan researchers say at least one-half of parents polled still believe folk methods help avoid a cold, such as never go outside with wet hair, avoiding cold weather by staying inside, or taking vitamin C or other supplements to boost the immune system, though not supported by science. The article notes colds are caused by viruses, most frequently spread from person to person or through the air.
