POTENT POT & HEART RISK

With more states legalizing use of marijuana, it should be noted that marijuana is becoming increasingly potent. Researchers at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston say their review suggests smoking marijuana carries many of the same heart health hazards as tobacco. They estimate more than two million patients with cardiovascular disease are currently using recreational or medicinal marijuana or have previously used it. The study in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology notes that marijuana use can change the effectiveness of certain heart medications. The researchers say there is enough evidence to advise caution for high-risk patients.
