There is learning, and there is overlearning.
A Brown University study suggests you
should practice tasks a little longer even
after you think you can’t get any better.
Researchers say overlearning cements
learning so well and quickly that it stabilizes
a flexible part of the brain where learning
occurs. Professor Takeo Watanabe says
the overlearning effect of visual learning
will likely translate to other kinds of tasks.
However, he cautions that cementing
learning something very important quickly
might interfere with similar learning that
follows, unless you leave a few hours in
between learning sessions. Nonetheless,
overlearning may increase the chance that
what you learn will not ebb away.
