MEASURING DIGITAL ADDICTION

from journal Cyberpsychology Behavior and Social Networking

More than twelve percent of children between three and twelve were found to at risk for addiction to digital devices, including video gaming, social media and texting. Some parents might have put that risk even higher. The study, published in the journal Cyberpsychology, Behavior and Social Networking, also developed and validated the effectiveness of a tool to assess a child’s overall addiction to digital devices. Researchers, including those from the University of Notre Dame and Nottingham Trent University in Britain, based their system on recognized criteria for addiction, then added criteria such sleep issues, discord with parents and deception or lying about their digital time.
