Immunotherapy has revolutionized the
treatment of cancer, but cancer cells are
masters at avoiding detection. Enter a
new system developed by Yale University
scientists that helps the immune system
spot cancer cells, even those located far
from the primary tumor source. Author of
the study in the journal Nature
Immunology, Sidi Chen says this is an
entirely new form of immunology and is
the molecular equivalent of dressing
tumor cells in orange jump suits, allowing
the immune system police to quickly find
and eradicate the deadly cells. The new
system is not yet ready for clinical testing
in cancer patients, but it represents
another of the discoveries that show great
promise in fighting the scourge of cancer.
