TRAFFIC VS. HEALTH

from Journal of Environmental Science

Traffic jams are bad for our health. No surprise? However, a British study has come up with a way to greatly reduce those toxic traffic fumes. In traffic jams or just at red lights with other vehicles in front of you, close your windows and turn off the cooling and heating system fan. Or, if you can, put the fan onto the setting that recirculates air within the car without drawing polluted air from outside. The World Health Organization says there are seven million premature deaths worldwide from outdoor air pollution. Here in the United States, the World Health Organization lists ambient particulate matter—air pollution—is the eighth leading cause of death. The study is published in the Journal of Environmental Science.
