Much has been said about harmful effects of secondhand cigarette smoke on children. What about secondhand marijuana smoke? Researchers from Wake Forest University and Children’s Hospital of Colorado found parents and caregivers who regularly smoked or vaped marijuana did not believe the children in their care were negatively affected. Authors of the study in the journal Pediatric Research surveyed parents whose children were brought to the emergency
department at Children’s Hospital Colorado over a two-year period. They asked about asthma attacks, ear infections or respiratory infections. Their conclusion, generally, is that children whose parents regularly smoke or vape marijuana were more likely to experience those health problems.
