Regular exercise may reduce the risk of death from natural causes. That statement probably surprises no one. It should not come as a surprise that air pollution is harmful to our health. But a new study in the Canadian Medical Association Journal suggests regular exercise is beneficial regardless of exposure to air pollution. This was a fifteen year study of more than three hundred thousand adults. Obviously, high levels of regular exercise are more beneficial with lower levels of air pollution. The researchers say people should not be forced to choose between physical activity and air pollution. They urge regular exercise and, if possible, reduce exposure to air pollution by exercising indoors and avoiding walking or biking on congested roads. But, keep exercising!
