TRAVEL FOR HEALTH?

from Edith Cowan University

You likely have heard about the health benefits attributed to music therapy or art therapy. What about travel therapy? Travel is usually considered recreation, but a study from Edith Cowan University raises the possibility that travel can also provide real health benefits. The study focused on people with dementia, suggesting new environments offer cognitive and social stimulation. That thinking is still in formative stages, but the authors use the example of people’s yearning to travel following the pandemic—and the resulting boost to mental wellbeing. They suggest travel is not just about having fun, but perhaps should involve a closer look at other positive effects.
