It is widely accepted that exercise and lifestyle changes may reduce the risk of additional heart problems in people already diagnosed with heart disease, but statistics suggest less than one-quarter of all cardiac patients follow fitness programs. McMaster University researchers who studied heart patients found that stair-climbing routines, whether vigorous or moderate, provide significant cardiovascular and muscular benefits. Researchers worked closely with the Cardiac Health and Rehabilitation Center at Hamilton, Ontario, Hospital. The study shows heart patients can still safely repair and build lost muscle. Since every case is different, heart patients should consult with their own healthcare provider.
