Nagging is Caring

from Michigan State University

A national study led by researchers at Michigan State University challenges the traditional assumption that unhappiness in marriage is always detrimental to health. The study suggests differentiating various types of marital quality, since men who are unhappy with their marriage because their wives seem to be constantly nagging them about their health behaviors may be healthier. More succinctly, the researchers say sometime, nagging is caring. The most surprising finding in the study was that men who reported an increase in negative marital quality lowered their risk of developing diabetes or increased chances of managing the disease. On the contrary, for women, a good marriage was related to a lower risk of being diabetic.
