A small handful of pecans every day may
protect adults from developing
cardiovascular disease or type 2
diabetes. The small study from Tufts
University in the journal Nutrients
carefully monitored the food intake of
volunteers for four weeks at a time.
Participants ate either a diet with no nuts
or the same diet with pecans substituted
so that total calories remained the same
for both groups. The study found
incorporating pecans into a typical diet
significantly improved insulin sensitivity
and had a significant effect on
cardiometabolic disease in otherwise
healthy overweight adults. Authors
found it interesting that one small
change—eating a handful of pecans
daily--may have a large impact on the
health of at-risk adults.
