There is considerable evidence that eating almonds is good for our health. Among the latest studies, from Appalachian State University and Frontiers in Nutrition, documents the role of almonds in muscle recovery following intense exercise. One group consumed two ounces of almonds a day for four weeks. Another group ate a calorie-matched cereal bar. Immediately after ninety minutes of intense exercise, those who ate almonds each day had higher levels of the beneficial fat known as 12, 13-DIHOME leading to a change in metabolism that reduces inflammation and oxidative stress from exercise and enabling the body—namely muscles—to recover faster. Authors also note almonds have high amounts of protein and polyphenols.
