Loss of bone density is not uncommon as
we age, especially women. Ohio State
University researchers wrote in the Journal
of Bone and Mineral Research of their
finding that links anti-inflammatory diets
and lower risk of hip fracture in some
women. Anti-inflammatory diets tend to
be high in vegetables, fruits, fish and whole
grains. The team looked at diets from
more than one hundred sixty thousand
women in the Women’s Health Initiative,
reviewing bone mineral density in about ten
thousand women. There was a link
between high-inflammatory diets and hip
fractures in certain women—suggesting a
high quality, less inflammatory diet may be
especially important in reducing hip
fractures in younger women.
