E-CIGARETTES NOT SAFER

from American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine

There is confusion about whether ecigarettes are safer than tobacco cigarettes, so perhaps a study published in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine will provide clarity. Researchers at the University of North Carolina say potential adverse effects of ecigarettes are only beginning to be studied. Their report says e-cigarettes appear to trigger unique immune responses plus the same ones caused by regular cigarettes. The study examined fluid samples from human lungs to determine reactions to an outside substance that may play roles in diseases, including lung disease. This study suggests e-cigarettes may not be a healthy alternative—that additional harm may lurk in e-cigarettes.
