THINKING CLEARLY

from Pennington Biomedical Research Center

It is important for diabetics to properly control blood sugar levels. A new study shows doing so improves the ability to think clearly, learn and remember. Authors at Pennington Biomedical Research Center theorized that people with greater improvements in blood sugar levels, physical activity and weight loss would have better cognitive scores. Every little improvement in blood sugar control was associated with improved cognition. Increasing physical activity was beneficial for people who were overweight but not considered obese. Authors say don’t think you can simply let yourself get all the way to the obese range, lose some weight and everything in the brain will be fine. Some cognition loss, they suggest, is irreversible.
