From time to time, we hear media
coverage about whether there is a safe
amount of alcohol to drink while pregnant.
A new study from Binghamton University
State University of New York provides a
clear answer. Researchers were able to
determine that even a small to moderate
amount of alcohol exposure produces
significant to extreme amounts of anxiety
in offspring—effects that last into
adolescence and adulthood. The study,
using laboratory animals, also determined
that anxiety was most apparent in male
offspring. Lead researcher, professor
Marvin Diaz says this study shows there is
no safe amount of alcohol in pregnancy.
The research appears in the journal
Frontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience.
